Delta State Police PRO confirms the removal of DCO who used N1m extorted from man to pay school fees of daughter

The Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, on Wednesday confirmed the removal of the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) of the Abraka Police Station, SP Ishaku Atata, on the orders of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Olufemi Abaniwonda.

Edafe disclosed this on his X handle while reacting to the report of extortion of about N2.46 million involving the DCO and another officer who was given query for gross misconduct. He was said to have collected N1.049 million as his share of the money.

According to reports, when the DCO was asked where was the N1.049 million that he got, he was said to have told his superiors that he had sent the money to his daughter to pay her school fees.

A man, whose X handle is @HarrisonBbi18, who initially wrote about the extortion on his X handle and who was at the state police command when the money was paid back, disclosed that the DCO, who could not pay back the money, was helped by a politician to pay the money which was refunded to the victim.

He also displayed on his X handle the receipts of the payment of the money into the DCO's account.

Responding to the post on Wednesday, Edafe confirmed that the DCO had been removed with immediate effect over the incident while the officer had been issued a query for gross misconduct on the orders of the commissioner of police.
