Arsenal breaking news reveals who the Gunners will face in the third round of this season's FA Cup as Mikel Arteta aims to repeat the success from the 2020 final
Arsenal will face Liverpool in the third round of this season's FA Cup.
Entering at this stage of the competition along with the other 19 Premier League clubs and all 24 Championship sides, the Gunners were allocated ball number two ahead of the draw that has been taking place on ITV during their build-up coverage of the second round tie between Eastleigh and Reading.
It didn't take long for Arsenal to be drawn but in a huge third-round clash they welcome Liverpool to the Emirates Stadium in what will be the second meeting between the two clubs in a matter of weeks as they clash at Anfield in the Premier League a couple of days before Christmas.
This particular fixture will take place across the weekend of Saturday and Sunday 6 and 7 January, although it remains to be seen if Takehiro Tomiyasu, Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are available for the hosts given they are expected to be on AFC Asian Cup and Africa Cup of Nations duty early next year.
Since beating Chelsea in the 2020 final, the north London outfit have been quite disappointing in the FA Cup. They went out in the fourth round against Southampton the following season before crashing out at the first attempt away at Nottingham Forest in the 2021/22 campaign.
Now, those who are familiar with Arsenal's Amazon Prime's 'All or Nothing' documentary that was released last year will know just how badly Arteta reacted to the manner of the defeat at the City Ground.
However, the Gunners were beaten in round four by eventual winners Manchester City last season and they've not made it past this stage in five of the last six campaigns. A run that has to change especially as this competition represents a very good chance for success.
