Cristiano Ronaldo: 3 reasons why Al Nassr star is being sued after N327m settlement by alleged rape victim

We reviewed three reasons why Ronaldo is still involved in a legal battle with rape accuser Kathryn Mayorga despite paying a settlement in 2010 and getting the case dismissed in 2022.

As Pulse Sports reported earlier today, Cristiano Ronaldo's lawyers are back in a legal battle with the representatives of Kathryn Mayorga, who accused the Portuguese star of a rape incident that allegedly occurred in 2009.

The accuser had previously reached a confidential agreement with Ronaldo, and she was paid a reported $375,000 in 2010 as "hush money."

Cristiano Ronaldo has also vehemently denied the accusations when they resurfaced, and a district court in the United States threw out the case when Mayorga's representatives allegedly sued for more money.

However, the case refuses to go away and has reared its head once more. In a bid to make sense of it all, we examined three reasons why Ronaldo is being sued once more.

Ronaldo accused of breaching confidentiality agreement

With a confidentiality agreement signed and Mayorga having received payment for it, it begs the question of how she is able to bring up the case without suffering legal casualties.

Well, the alleged victim's representatives, according to a report by the Guardian, argued that Ronaldo or his associates breached this agreement first when German publication Die Spiegel published the story "Cristiano Ronaldo's Secret" based on documents obtained from the infamous Whistleblower football leaks.

However, Ronaldo's team argued that the leaks came from electronic data breaches at law firms and other entities.

Mayorga's option of an appeal

The accusers' case was dismissed in June last year by US District Judge Jennifer Dorsey on the grounds that Mayorga's team dealt in bad faith. Per the Daily Mail, her lawyers were found to have used stolen confidential documents in their case.

Although the case was thrown out, the accuser retained the right to appeal, and her lawyers are now said to have asked the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit to overturn the dismissal and reopen the civil lawsuit Mayorga initially filed in Nevada in 2018.

Money

According to the reports, the new charges filed by Mayorga is an attempt to get more money out of Ronaldo after having initially received a settlement in the hundreds of thousands.

Mayorga, per the Mail, is said to be demanding a settlement in the millions from Ronaldo, who is now one of the highest-paid football players in the world after his earth-shattering move to Al-Nassr in the Saudi Arabia Professional League.
