A young man lost his life in a road accident while celebrating the Super Eagles' 4-2 win over South Africa in the African Cup of Nations on Wednesday.

According to Newsmen, the victim, identified as Lukman, was riding a motorcycle with his friend along the Murtala Mohamed Way in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State, when they collided with a vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

According to eyewitnesses, the duo had joined other jubilant fans to mark the victory of the Nigerian national team, but they drove against traffic, resulting in the fatal crash.

Lukman, who was in his late twenties, died on the spot, while his friend sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The driver of the vehicle was said to have escaped from the scene, leaving behind his damaged car.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident and appealed to the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the driver.

Lukman's body was buried according to Islamic rites in the Kabawa area of Lokoja on Thursday.

The Super Eagles' win secured them a place in the final of the continental tournament, where they will face Cote d'Ivoire on Sunday.
