And chief among the positions Pochettino wants to improve is the strike force, which has faltered so far in a disappointing 2023-24 campaign.

It is believed funds will be made available to the Argentine to do so.

Summer signing Christopher Nkunku is yet to play a competitive minute for Chelsea following a serious injury in pre-season, while Nicolas Jackson has flattered to deceive despite notching seven goals this term.

A striker is believed to be the clear priority for Pochettino and the Blues board.

One top target is Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who is yet to play this season after being banned for betting rule breaches earlier this year.

His ban is up in January but a well-placed source has told Football Insider that the Bees are reluctant to sell.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is also a top target for Chelsea as the new year approaches, but it is believed that his price tag could prove prohibitive for Pochettino's side despite their vast wealth.

Finally, Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord has also emerged as a target for the Blues following his stellar goalscoring form in the Netherlands this season.

The Mexico international has notched 20 goals in 19 games across all competitions for the Rotterdam club this season.

But Feyenoord are reluctant to lose the 22-year-old mid-season as they fight to retain the Eredivisie title.
