Chelsea's hopes of signing any new players throughout the January transfer window rely heavily on the funds raised through player sales. The Blues' big spending in the last three transfer windows means Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations will be watched closely at Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino's demand for new players after the 2-0 defeat to Everton in the Premier League last month has left a clear indication of the west Londoners' ambitions in this month's window. Chelsea have already been linked with a number of players since the window opened, but there is one consistent name appearing.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has been on Todd Boehly's radar for some time. The 25-year-old played a pivotal role in Napoli's Serie A title success last season, netting 30 goals in 32 games.

A deadly talisman has been earmarked as the priority target for Pochettino after five months of missed chances and inconsistency in front of goal. Osimhen recently signed a new deal with the Italian giants, which includes a £112million release clause, but his long-term future appears to be away from Naples.

If Chelsea are going to structure a tempting financial package for Osimhen, they face being forced into selling players. Conor Gallagher continues to be linked with a move to Tottenham while Borussia Dortmund have held talks with Ian Maatsen, but a January exit for Trevoh Chalobah could play a big part.

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is keen to bring Trevoh Chalpbah to the Stadio Olimpico. In September, football.london reported that the club were still looking to sell Chalobah in the winter window, with the defender told there is a chance he will not play again this season.

Galetti has claimed that Chalobah has been proposed to Roma. The Italian side would supposedly prefer a loan deal, instead of the permanent move Chelsea would want.

According to CIES Football Observatory, Chalobah is valued at €20million (£17.3m) - a huge drop from the £50million that Chelsea were seeking for him last summer.

If Chelsea are to provide Pochettino with his priority targets, trimming the squad and raising funds will have to be the main focus in the opening weeks of the transfer window.
