Premier League: Stats show Manchester United has one of the worst conversion rates this season

In football, often the difference between a good side and an average one is the ability to take chances.

This has proven to be true in the Premier League, as some of the clubs with the worst conversion rates are struggling in the league.

Conversion rate takes into account the number of shots a team has had this season relative to the number of goals that have been scored.

Bruno Fernandes, Premier League

In this sense, Manchester United ranks relatively low in terms of their conversion rate as they have been among the bluntest clubs in the English top flight this season.

As seen on the Premier League website, United have scored a mere 13 goals in 12 games, with their forwards struggling to break down most defences.

In their last outing just before the international break, United scraped past Fulham thanks to a late goal by Bruno Fernandes, which earned the side a narrow 1-0 win.

While the result took Ten Hag's men to sixth place on the log, it did little to mask the underlying problem within the club - goals.

United ranks 16th in the conversion rate table with a mere 6.1% conversion rate.

Clubs with the best conversion rates

In contrast, Newcastle United has the best conversion rate in the Premier League, as Eddie Howe's side has proven they can create and take chances.

The Magpies are first in the rankings in this criteria, as they have scored 27 goals from 166 shots on goal, giving them an impressive 16.3 % conversion rate.

Manchester City come in second with a 14.3 % conversion rate, while Unai Emery's Aston Villa impressively sit in third place, with a conversion rate of 13.4 %.

The top four is rounded off by Arsenal, who have scored 26 goals from 206 shots on target, giving them a 12.5 % conversion rate.

Other clubs that make up the top 10 include West Ham(12.4 %), Brighton(11.0 %), Tottenham(10.6 %), Liverpool(8.9 %), Chelsea (8.9 %) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (8.6 %), as per data on Transfermarkt.
