Funeral arrangements have been made for the late Evangelist Mrs. Rosemary Oromoni, mother of the late Sylvester Oromoni Jr., the Dowen College student who passed away under controversial circumstances in 2021.
Mrs. Oromoni passed away in November 2024, three years after her son's death, reportedly following a battle with depression and high blood pressure triggered by the traumatic loss and prolonged legal struggle.
Her son, Sylvester Jr., became a national figure after his death sparked public outrage.
His family alleged he was beaten and forced to ingest a harmful substance by senior students at Dowen College.
The school denied the claims, attributing his injuries to a football accident.
Conflicting autopsy results and a later ruling by a Lagos coroner, which stated Sylvester died of sepsis, led to the eventual clearance of the accused students, with no charges filed.
The family, dissatisfied with the verdict, delayed Sylvester's burial for over two years.
He was finally laid to rest in Warri in January 2024. Just months later, Mrs. Oromoni also passed away.
Her burial has now been scheduled for August 9, 2025, at the family compound in Warri.
