Liverpool have been linked with a move for another top-rated Bundesliga talent.
Liverpool are reportedly set to lock horns with Bayern Munich for another key transfer target, as they eye a Bundesliga defender on the Bavarians' shopping list.
The Reds beat the Bundesliga champions to the signing of Florian Wirtz and are now said to be competing with the Germans for the talents of French defender Castello Lukeba.
Liverpool preparing for the worst
Following the exit of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen and, more importantly, the lack of progress in the contract talks for Ibrahima Konate, Liverpool are reportedly plotting a centre-back signing for the summer and have identified Lukeba as an ideal target.
The 22-year-old French Angolan joined Leipzig from Lyon in the summer of 2023 and has established himself as one of the most reliable defenders in the Bundesliga.
While he struggled with injuries last season, missing 17 games for club and country, his talent is still highly coveted, and the Reds might have to pay a small fortune to secure his signature.
According to Foot Mercato, Lukeba has a release clause of €90 million, but Leipzig would allow him to leave for a fee in the region of €70 million. Liverpool would have to compete with Bayern Munich, as Lukeba is a player the champions hope would replace the unsettled Kim Min-Jae.
