A passenger who flew from Delhi to Ahmedabad on the same day of a crash has shared concerning footage from a similar Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
The individual, Akash Vatsa, an entrepreneur, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his harrowing experience just hours before an aircraft went down near Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The ill-fated flight, AI171, was carrying 242 people, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members.
"I was in the same damn flight 2 hours before it took off from AMD. I came in this from DEL-AMD. Noticed unusual things in the plane. Made a video to tweet to @airindia. I would want to give more details," Vatsa wrote in his viral post.
Vatsa uploaded multiple clips filmed during his trip from Delhi to Ahmedabad, highlighting technical malfunctions onboard.
In one video, visibly frustrated passengers could be seen fanning themselves due to the lack of air conditioning.
"We are almost about to taxi. But the AC is not working. Look at everyone. AC is not working at all. And as usual, the TV screens are not working. Not even the light is working," he said in the footage.
The post garnered over four million views in less than two hours, sparking widespread concern online. In a follow-up, Vatsa revealed he had cancelled his return flight with Air India that evening.
Did Akash Vatsa fly on flight AI171 before the crash?
The answer is NO! Following Akash's viral post, many people scrutinised his claim, forcing him to post his ticket on the same thread of his viral post.
While the Air India flight which crashed was AI171, Akash was on a different flight, AI423, which arrived at the same airport hours before the ill-fated flight, which claimed 241 lives.
The viral claim suggesting Akash flew on the same plane that later crashed is not supported by evidence and has been debunked by his own flight details.
The crash of the Dreamliner shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad has intensified scrutiny on Air India's aircraft maintenance protocols, as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
