British Couple Recorded a Chilling 'Goodbye' Video Minutes Before They Died in Plane Crash

Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek and his husband, Jamie, probably had no idea that it would be their final video when they were filming themselves sitting at the airport today, mere hours before the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash on Thursday. The British couple shared the video on their Instagram story before boarding the ill-fated Air India flight from the Sardar Vallabhbhai International Airport.

Like all the other passengers, Meek and his husband also boarded the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, bound for London. However, mere minutes after takeoff, the plane crashed into the BJ Medical College UG hostel mess in Meghani Nagar. The horrific crash claimed at least 240 lives, including the passengers, crew members, and some interns and students inside the Medical College. Unfortunately, the British couple also lost their lives before they could even return to their home.

Following the tragic news, their video went viral on social media, with people mourning their passing. In the video, Greenlaw-Meek could be seen saying, "We are at the airport. Just boarding. Goodbye India." Little did he knew that it would actually be a goodbye. Joining Meek in the video, Jamie can also been see saying, "Goodbye, India. 10-hour flight back to England."

"What's your biggest takeaway, Jamie?" Fiongal asks. Jamie quickly replies that he has already told him. As a response, Meek focuses the camera back on himself, joking, saying, "Fascinating. Thank you for your contribution."

"Don't lose your patience with your Aura partner," he then reveals that this is the biggest takeaway from his India trip with his husband. However, Jamie interrupts: "You already started to. You've already snapped at me while we're having chai at the airport. You can see you've learned nothing."

The video ends with Greenlaw-Meek saying, "Going back happily, happily, happily, calm." The couple truly looked happy about their India visit, and they were excited to go back home, probably after a few long days. This is why their video has broken the hearts of many, as the nation mourns not just theirs but numerous others' tragic deaths.

One X (formerly Twitter) commented, "This is heartbreaking." Another echoed, "Only tears." A third pointed out how excited they were to go back home: "The way he looks up when his partner says '10 hour flight back to England'..."

"What a lovely couple. There's not much more I can say really. Their family and friends must be devasted," another person wrote.  One user added, "These were the last words of these two British citizens as they were leaving India, look how happy they looked, but little did he know that just half an hour later he would have to say goodbye to this world."

As people continue to mourn the massive loss, an investigation is underway to determine what exactly went wrong with the plane to end up in a fatal crash. The passenger plane left the Ahmedabad airport at around 1:17 p.m. with a total of 242 travelers and 12 crew members. It was scheduled to arrive at the Gatwick Airport at 6:09 p.m.

According to the Financial Express, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal made a mayday call minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad. However, when ATC called back, no response was received from the aircraft.
