Transfers: Florian Wirtz makes '10' demand to sign for Liverpool

Transfers: Florian Wirtz makes 10 demand to sign for Liverpool

An alleged demand made by Florian Wirtz to Liverpool as a condition for signing has been revealed.

Liverpool are still in negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz, but there is a clear indication they are leading the race; hence, they have already begun talks with the player.

Wirtz demands

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder is set to leave Die Werkself this summer and has prioritised a move to the Reds after initially warming up to a move to Bayern Munich.

Wirtz would expectedly come in as one of the top earners at the side, with the speculation that he would become the third-highest earner, behind Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk.

He is also said to be demanding the number 10 jersey, which he currently dons for Leverkusen, Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenburg reports. However, the kit number is occupied by one of the important players in the Liverpool squad, Alexis MacAlister.

The number 10 was made famous in Reds folklore by the likes of Sadio Mane, Michael Owen and Philippe Coutinho. Wirtz is hoping to continue the legacy. However, it remains to be seen whether the Reds would give in to his demands and implore the Argentine World Cup winner to vacate his squad number.

Liverpool see two bids rejected

As Pulse Sports reported, Liverpool have had two bids rejected for the Germany international, with Leverkusen holding out on a €150 million fee.

The Reds submitted a bid of up to €130m for Wirtz, a sum that would shatter the club's transfer record. The offer for Wirtz indicated the Kops' strong belief in the playmaker's abilities.
