Liverpool could ruin Arsenal's transfer plans and go for £67m player Andrea Berta is about to bid for

Liverpool and Arsenal have been competing fiercely in the Premier League title race this season.

Indeed, The Reds and the Gunners have been one another's biggest rivals on the pitch this season, and that is somewhat carrying over to the transfer window.

Liverpool could ruin Arsenal's transfer plans and go for £67m player Andrea Berta is about to bid for

Liverpool and Arsenal are looking at a number of the same targets this summer.

Liverpool famously wanted Martin Zubimendi last year, but Zubimendi is now set to join Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are closing in on Milos Kerkez, and Arsenal were keen on Kerkez at one point.

On top of that, both clubs seem to want a striker this summer, and now, Liverpool could scupper another of Arsenal's transfer plans.

According to Ben Jacobs, speaking on The Done Deal Show, Liverpool could enter the race for Benjamin Sesko.

Liverpool could enter Benjamin Sesko race

Arsenal have been keen on Benjamin Sesko for a long time now.

In fact, Arsenal are reportedly set to bid for the £67m man in the near future, but Liverpool could end up entering this race.

"The biggest question mark will be over the number nine and if they can genuinely go for Alexander Isak," Jacobs said.

"Will they drop the £100m that Frankfurt are asking for Hugo Ekitike, they could even enter the race for Benjamin Sesko even though it feels like Arsenal are more advanced on that one at the moment."

Liverpool's recent striker signings

Liverpool's transfer strategy in recent times has been impeccable, but one area where the Reds have largely fallen short is signing new number nines.

Indeed, while Liverpool have signed tons of quality forwards who usually play out wide such as Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane and even Roberto Firmino - the archetypal false nine, when it comes to signing out-and-out strikers, the Reds keep getting things wrong.

Liverpool's last five number nine signings have all not gone to plan.

Liverpool's last five striker signings Games Goals
Darwin Nunez 143 40
Christian Benteke 42 10
Dominic Solanke 27 1
Iago Aspas 15 1
Andy Carroll 58 11

Brendan Rodgers never wanted Iago Aspas, while Andy Carroll never wanted to sign for Liverpool.

Darwin Nunez was a club-record addition that didn't go to plan, while Christian Benteke seemed to have a confidence crisis at Anfield.

Dominic Solanke has gone on to become a £65m striker at Tottenham, but he only scored one goal for Liverpool.

Michael Edwards and FSG's recruitment has been spot on for the most part, but their striker signings have been poor over the years.
