Barcelona sporting director Deco met with the agent of Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford despite preferring Liverpool star Luis Diaz. The Catalan Giant favour Rashford as a cheaper option to Diaz due to their persisting financial problem in the market.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils want to sell their former academy player after years of inconsistencies in performance displayed by Rashford. The 27-year-old enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Aston Villa, highlighting that mutually parting ways is the best available option.
At the same time, United boss Ruben Amorim decided to loan Rashford and has not changed his opinion of him. The former Sporting CP boss wants to add players who would suit his playing philosophy and tactics at the club.
Man United fans tolerated a horrible season, finishing 16th in the Premier League and witnessing the Europa League final loss. Nevertheless, both the club and their fan base are backing Amorim to turn things around during the next season.
However, United are also struggling with financial problems and need to sell their surplus before recruiting new talent that Amorim desires. According to Spanish outlet Sport, Deco met the agent of United star Rashford despite favouring Liverpool attacker Diaz over him.
Liverpool will demand a far bigger sum for Diaz compared to United's €40 million valuation to sign Rashford this summer. The problem for Barcelona is the wage demand of Rashford, along with the transfer fee, proving too much when combined.
The cumulative sum is still big even if the England international takes a significant wage cut to finalise the move. At the same time, Barcelona are planning to sign Rashford on a loan deal with an option to buy him.
However, United need to raise their transfer budget by permanently selling the 27-year-old, making the deal more complex right now. The Red Devils face a daunting task of selling many of their surplus players who are under big contracts, while they race against time to provide Amorim with a competitive squad for the next season.
