Sen. Ned Nwoko, a PDP lawmaker representing Delta North Senatorial District, indicated in an interview on Arise Television that paying rent in dollars or making advance payments of one or two years for rent is a despicable habit.
During the interview, the business tycoon said, "Let me tell you about my background in case some of you might not know. I spent over 35 years in England studying and working as a lawyer and also traveling all over the world in the process, so I understand how things are done. When I profess solutions to the problems of Nigeria, I speak from an informed position based on some things I have learned that I know work elsewhere.

On the issues related to rent in Nigeria, he said, "For example, the issue of the payment of rents a year or two years in advance or even payments of rents in dollars are almost like an abomination.
He added that "the issue rising from the rent payment is that it is manifestly unjust for anybody to demand that people look for rent deposits or payments of one or two years. Nigerians don't earn much. The salary scale of Nigerians is abysmal as it is not comparative to many other societies, so how do you expect them to get enough money to pay for two years? Why do you want to put Nigerians through that hell? It doesn't happen anywhere else in the world.
Regarding how payment of rents is done in the UK, he said, "Again, as you said, the United Kingdom pays one month in advance, so anyone can look for any accommodation and be able to afford it.
He further added that "if you insist that people should pay rent the way we are carrying on now, what it means is that people have to lie, steal, and do all manner of bad things to get the money.
