Gonzalez scored a contender for goal of the season award with a stunning volley from outside the box to make it 2-0 just before halftime.

Real Madrid improved in the second half, probing for an opportunity to rescue something from the game.

The first controversy led to the opening goal for Real Madrid after the referee awarded a penalty against Almeria when the ball brushed the arm of Kaiky, but the official failed to penalise Rudiger for a foul in the buildup to the penalty.

Jude Bellingham stepped up gallantly to score from the spot to make it 2-1.

Sergio Arribas thought he had increased Almeria's lead but the effort was ruled out for a foul in the build-up to the goal.

Vinicius restored parity for Real Madrid with another controversial goal when the ball hit his arm into the net. It was initially ruled out for handball before the referee decided to award the goal after reviewing it on the pitchside monitor.

Almeria's coach, Gaizka Garitano was sent off for dissent late into the game.

Real Madrid snatched the maximum points in the 99th minute when Dani Carvajal turned in Jude Bellingham's cross to send the Bernabeu supporters into wild jubilations.

Bellingham has now scored 14 goals for Real Madrid in the La Liga to become the highest-scoring English player in La Liga history.
