Following criticisms from fans after their underwhelming performances during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, Naija Ratels captain, Onome Ebi, has jumped to the defence of the Super Eagles, The PUNCH reports.

Despite being tagged as the favourites, the three-time African champions in the first game against the Crocodiles came from behind to steal a point at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo last Thursday.

It was the same narrative in their second game against Zimbabwe at the Huye Stadium in Rwanda.

The draw means the Eagles have just two points from a possible six points and are third in their Group C, two points behind Rwanda, who surprisingly defeated South Africa on Tuesday.

The team's poor performance has caused uproar among fans who are already calling for the sacking of the Portuguese tactician.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Niger State Command has denied any involvement in the loss of a telecom mast in the state.

Mr Elijah Etim, the state Commandant, stated that the main suspects have already been identified and are being pursued.

Etim informed reporters on Wednesday in Minna that the investigation had found that a scrap dealer named Bello Mustapha, assisted by two NSCDC personnel, was most likely involved in the crime.

Etim stated that a recent media allegation stating that he conspired with two officials to remove and sell the mast was completely incorrect.

According to him, Mustapha approached two NSCDC members, one assigned to Niger command and the other to Kaduna State command, using falsified documents, for cover to evacuate the mast.

He stated that the mast was in Rafi Local Government Area.

Tailor Jailed For Internet Dating Scam

An Ikeja Special Offences Court, on Wednesday, sentenced a 22-year-old tailor, Kabiru Okeshola to one-year imprisonment for presenting himself as a white woman and engaging in internet dating scam.

Justice Rahman Oshodi sentenced Okeshola to one year in the Correctional Service Centre, Ikoyi, following the convict's admission to the charges preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Oshodi said that he was satisfied that the confessional statement of the defendant established that he was engaged in fraudulent activities.

"Contrary to Section 320 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, I have convicted you of possessing fraudulent documents through which you have benefitted 3,000 USD.

"You used the money to pay the hospital bill of your father, who is now late.

"You said you are now a tailor and have turned a new leaf and I believe you.

"You are hereby sentenced to one-year imprisonment or pay a fine of N100,000," the judge said.
