Manchester United fans boo when Rasmus Hojlund is substituted as Antony is then seen shaking head

Manchester United fans appeared to make their feelings known by booing Erik ten Hag's decision to take Rasmus Hojlund off against Manchester City.

With United trailing 2-0 to City at Old Trafford and nearly 15 minutes to go, Ten Hag opted to take his main striker, Hojlund, off.

The decision didn't go down well with the home crowd

Alejandro Garnacho came on in the £72million man's place, with Marcus Rashford moving to the striker position.

But the decision did not go down well with the locals as loud boos rung around the stadium.

The cameras later caught United forward Antony shaking his head on the bench.

Moments later, United's misery was complete as Phil Foden put City 3-0 up with a finish from close range.

That only compounded the misery that had spread around Old Trafford after a dominant performance from City.

Erling Haaland had netted twice earlier in the contest, the first from the penalty spot in the opening 45 minutes.

Though it was a controversial decision to award the decision, the Norwegian made no mistake to score his first goal at Old Trafford.

He then doubled his personal tally when Bernardo Silva's cross found the 23-year-old inexplicably unmarked in the box.

It's been a very frustrating afternoon for Man United

It continues United's poor start to the season, who remain eighth in the Premier League with 15 points from 10 games.

They have lost five out of those matches, as well as twice in the Champions League.

It has seen pressure ramp up on Ten Hag, who took over in the summer of 2022.

The Dutchman's first season went better than expected as they finished in the top four and won the Carabao Cup - their first piece of silverware since the Europa League in 2017.

But this campaign has been disastrous so far, though injuries have been cruel to the club.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw have all been ruled out for lengthy spells, effectively decimating United's preferred back-four.

However, going forward the Red Devils have struggled with Rashford and Hojlund toiling with just one Premier League goal between them.

Garnacho, Antony and Antony Martial have all failed to score in the league this season as well.
