Report - Man Utd now want to sign £59m-£63m in demand Spaniard

It is no coincidence that Manchester United are being linked with one striker after another this summer transfer window.

Of all their problems, the biggest one that the Red Devils are facing is to reinforce the number nine position.

Through the course of the season, between Ruben Amorim and Erik ten Hag, they had two players to depend on in the striker position - Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund.

The former however isn't a natural number nine and the latter if far too inconsistent to be one.

Reinforcement is the need of the hour and now, as per Caught Offside, Man Utd want to sign talented FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa. The Red Devils are not alone in their interest in the Spaniard with clubs like Aston Villa, Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham United also interested in him.

Aghehowa was on Atletico Madrid's books until last season and almost moved to Stamford Bridge.

However, the 21-year-old striker eventually moved to Porto and he played 42 games across all competitions, scoring 25 goals and providing 3 assists.

Samu - Star in the marking

Spain doesn't have the track record of having produced talented young strikers in recent years but Samu might just be the exception to the rule.

A physical unit, the youngster is cut out to develop into one of the most fearsome number nines in the coming seasons.

The 21-year-old's impressive displays for Porto have earned him a call-up to Luis de la Fuente's Nations League squad, although he isn't yet a regular feature.

One can fully expect him to replace the likes of Oyarzabal and Morata sooner rather than later though.

What Samu Aghehowa could add to Man Utd is quite promising. The player has a release clause of around £84.2m in his contract but the 21-year-old could leave Porto for a fee of around £59m-£63m this summer amid massive interest.

The transfer fee could prompt Man Utd to not take their bet on yet another young striker but turn their attention to a more established number nine.

The ceiling that Samu possesses might make this gamble worthwhile. It remains to be seen how things play out in the coming months.
