[ltr]Amid the revelation that she and her husband, Will Smith, have been living separate lives for the past seven years, Jada Pinkett Smith disclosed an interesting encounter with comedian Chris Rock.
She revealed that during the summers when rumours of divorce swirled around her and Will, Chris took it upon himself to step into the picture. Jada explained to People in an interview published on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.
"And this particular summer, Chris, he thought that we were getting a divorce. So he called me and basically he was like, 'I'd love to take you out.' And I was like, 'What do you mean?' He was like, 'Well, aren't you and Will getting a divorce?' I was like, 'No. Chris, those are just rumours.' He was appalled. And he profusely apologized, and that was that," she said.
This revelation comes in the wake of Jada's appearance on the Today Show, where she openly discussed her separation from actor Will Smith. They've been apart since 2016 but have not officially divorced. They struggled with figuring out how to navigate their partnership and maintain their public image as a happy couple.
Their marriage, which began in 1997, has been under the spotlight for various reasons. Singer August Alsina claimed to have been romantically involved with Jada in 2020, shedding light on their challenging times. The 2022 Oscars incident, where Will slâpp£d Chris Rock for joking about Jada's hair loss, further exposed their marital issues.
Jada's recent interview with People highlighted that their marriage faced challenges as early as 2016. She shared, "By 2016, we were both exhausted with trying and stuck in our fantasies of what the other person should be."
