Heightened Tension in Benue as Governorship Elections Tribunal Set to Deliver Judgment

Tensions are running high in Benue State as the governorship elections tribunal is scheduled to announce its verdict on the 2023 governorship elections today.

Newsmen reports that this tension is evident among the supporters and members of the state's two primary political parties: the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The PDP candidate, Titus Uba, and the party had filed a petition challenging the victory of Governor Hyacinth Alia of the APC in the March poll. They asked the tribunal to nullify the election, claiming the candidates did not comply with the electoral law and purportedly submitted false documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

There is widespread hope within the camp of the opposition PDP that the tribunal will give them justice. Supporters of Uba are upbeat and confident of winning the case, while many supporters of Governor Alia are optimistic that the APC will have a favourable judgment.

This publication learnt that many members of the opposition PDP have arrived in the state capital from various locations in the state.
