Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes has urged Andre Onana to stop blaming himself for his goalkeeping error in United's 4-3 defeat against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.
The Cameroon international was upset after the loss and Fernandes has offered his support behind the goalie.
The Red Devils' return to Europe's elite football was cut short by a defeat on Wednesday night. This is after they had lost three of their first five games for the first time in the Premier League era.
At the Allianz Arena, Erik ten Hag's team made an unexpectedly strong start to the Group A match. Only for summer addition Onana to astonishingly allow a low Leroy Sane shot to sneak in.
The 27-year-old put his head down on the ground and was comforted by teammates. After the final whistle, he claimed to have "let the team down" and that United "didn't win today, it's because of me".
"It's not about Andre," United skipper Fernandes said as reported by the Irish Examiner. "Andre is a great goalkeeper.
"He will keep giving us a lot of points, a lot of saves. He hasn't to take any blame for nothing.
"We have to take the blame as a team. That we're going to go through this moment together. Because we are strong as a team."
After Onana's mistake, Serge Gnabry scored, and then Harry Kane converted a penalty kick. It came immediately after Rasmus Hojlund gave United a goal early in the second half.
An exciting finish to the game saw Casemiro scores twice, either side of Mathys Tel's injury-time goal. As United showed character but ultimately fell short for the fourth time in five games.
