EPL: Block criticism with good performances - Ten Hag tells Man Utd defender

Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag, has urged defender Harry Maguire to 'block' criticism with 'good performances' after the England international was singled out once again during the international break.

Maguire was recently jeered by Scotland fans after scoring an own goal during England's friendly 3-1 win against Scotland at Hampden Park.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Man United's Premier League tie with Brighton at Old Trafford on Saturday, Ten Hag also branded the most recent treatment of Maguire as 'disrespectful', insisting that the former Leicester City star doesn't deserve it.

"I have said many times, it is disrespectful, he doesn't deserve it, he is a great player, he gives great performances," Ten Hag said.

"It is crazy, but it is how it works. Harry has to block this by performances."

When asked how Maguire has responded to another tough week, Ten Hag added: "Good, you see his career, it is a great career and has a lot to come, he has to block it by good performances."

Maguire will hope to feature and give a good performance when Man United host Brighton.
