Police destroy car mirror during stop-and-search after driver refuses ₦500 bribe

A disturbing video has surfaced online showing Nigerian police officers allegedly breaking the side mirror of a man's car during a stop-and-search operation, reportedly over his refusal to give them a ₦500 bribe despite having complete vehicle documents.

The incident was shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter), capturing a heated exchange between the officers and the car's occupants - a man and a woman.

In the video, the visibly upset woman can be heard confronting the officers, saying,

"This is very wrong, you're not supposed to break the side mirror."

The man, who was driving, explained that he provided all necessary vehicle documents, yet the officers still damaged his car.

According to the caption of the video, the side mirror was smashed using a gun, allegedly because he didn't give the demanded ₦500.

The clip has since gone viral, drawing outrage from Nigerians who flooded the comment section to condemn the officers' actions and demand accountability.
