Pochettino mocks Klopp for £100m Caicedo bid

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino jests about Klopp's 100m signing claim.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has aimed a dig at Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp over their failed £100 million bid for Colombian star Moises Caicedo.

What happened

Chelsea and Liverpool were caught in a transfer battle this summer window, with both clubs in the market for a defensive midfielder.

Following a protracted negotiation period between the Blues and Brighton for Caicedo, it was Liverpool who reached an agreement first for the former Independientes del Valle midfielder.

The Seagulls accepted Liverpool's £100 million bid, but the player turned down the chance to move to Anfield, opting to wait for Chelsea.

The Pochettino-coached side eventually reached an agreement for the midfielder, beating Liverpool to the chase.

What Pochettino said

Following the signing of Paul Pogba to Manchester United, Jurgen Klopp criticised bloated transfer costs, suggesting that he would never sign a player for £100 million.

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino recalled Klopp's statement mockingly, bringing up their bid for Caicedo, which they eventually lost out to his team.

"The future can change things. Life can change. I saw Klopp say I'm not going to be in this business when we should pay £100m," he said, per the Daily Mail.

"And then they offered £100million and he said "Oh, I made a mistake". That is the same situation.

"In football, the dynamic is fast and changes and we need to move on. Today, nothing has changed. If something changes we will adapt to the situation."
