Former Manchester United star to complete Everton switch

Ashley Young battles with Wilfried Zaha during Crystal Palace v Man Utd in Premier League at Selhurst Park

Veteran defender Ashley Young is expected to undergo a medical with Everton on Tuesday ahead of his free-transfer switch move to Goodison Park.

The 38-year-old is a free agent after leaving Aston Villa upon the expiry of his contract this summer and has decided to turn down other offers from the Premier League, Championship and Europe in favour of a move to Merseyside.

Sky Sports reports that the deal is for a one-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.

Young looks set to become the club's first signing of the summer and is expected to join Sean Dyche's side for a pre-season camp in Switzerland this week, ahead of a friendly fixture against Stade Nyonnais on Friday.

However, the signing of the former Manchester United and England star appears to be symptomatic of what the summer holds for the cash-strapped Toffees.

There does though appear to be some light at the end of the tunnel, given the latest club announcement of the implementation of an interim board of directors.

News out of New York also revealed a company filing by future investors MSP Sports Capital which confirmed investment totalling £130m.

Unhappy supporter groups have, for a while now, been calling for the removal of the current Goodison board.

And, while 75 per cent of that request has been granted with the departures of the CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale, financial director Grant Ingles and non-executive board member Graeme Sharp, arguably the most attention has been directed at the chairman Bill Kenwright.

And, with the announcement that he will remain in position during a transitional period, many supporters expressed concerns that nothing had or will change.

However, at least the Goodison faithful should have a new signing to welcome on Tuesday when Young, hopefully, completes his medical.
