RB Leipzig holds talks with Manchester United over move for Anthony Elanga

RB Leipzig have held talks with Manchester United over a move for Anthony Elanga with the Premier League side hoping to attract bids of up to £17million for the winger.

The Sweden international burst onto the scene last season under interim boss Ralf Rangnick but endured an underwhelming 202-23 season with first-team opportunities hard to come by.

The 21-year-old started just seven matches in all competitions with the vast majority of his 702 minutes of game time coming from the substitutes bench.

Elanga was linked with loan moves to Everton and Borussia Dortmund during the January window but a permanent exit could now loom as United look to raise additional transfer funds through player sales this summer.

Sky Sport Germany report Leipzig have held discussions with United over a move and while those talks are not yet at an advanced stage, are interested in bringing him to the Red Bull Arena. United hope to fetch a fee between £14.5m and £17m for their academy graduate.

Erik ten Hag is eager to strengthen his squad this summer with United already in talks to sign Mason Mount with Chelsea demanding £70m for their midfielder.

Harry Kane is the manager's top striker target but it is thought it would take a bid of at least £100m to tempt Tottenham into doing business.

United also appear to be making a move for Napoli defender Kim Min-Jae while a new goalkeeper could be considered should the summer budget stretch that far.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand believes there is a £100m in additional transfer fees to be raised within the current squad, recently naming Elanga as one of four players United can cash in on.

Scott McTominay hasn't played much football, not as much as he would like,' Ferdinand told Vibe with Five.

If I'm that far down the pecking order I would start looking and I don't think he will have a problem finding a club, he is a very good footballer and he can add a lot of value.

'Harry Maguire has to look at a new option for himself. Unless he says he's happy to be third or fourth choice. Elanga maybe [is another], he am not getting a chance.

'Martial has proved that he can't stay fit. I think if you got rid of those four, there is a £100million sitting there. Elanga isn't getting the football he deserves.

'He did well when he came in and still isn't getting a chance. Big players in front of him but he wants to be playing first team football.'
