Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is prepared to allow Fred to join Premier League rivals Fulham as the club put the final touches on an opening bid for Chelsea star Mason Mount.

Fred, 30, was seen in discussion with Fulham boss Marco Silva following United's 2-1 win against the side at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Brazil midfielder has a year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford and he's fallen out of favour under Ten Hag, even if the Dutchman still calls on him for certain matches.

Fred provided a sublime assist for Bruno Fernandes in the win against Fulham but he's already behind the likes of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the pecking order.

Jose Mourinho signed the midfielder in a £52m deal from Shakhtar Donestsk in 2018 and though he's at times struggled in the north-west, he's made over 200 appearances in a red shirt.

However, with United now preparing an opening £50m bid for Chelsea star Mason Mount, Ten Hag needs to balance the books in order to keep the bulk of his £100m budget on an outlay for a new striker.

And the Manchester Evening News say United will strongly consider an offer from Fulham, with Ten Hag willing to let Fred leave.

Scott McTominay is a target for Newcastle but he's the youngest of United's senior midfielders.

Fred, Eriksen, Casemiro and Fernandes are all over 28, while Marcel Sabitzer is 29.

Mount, 24, has a year left on his Chelsea deal and he appeared emotional during the end-of-season lap of honour at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

United are Mount's preferred destination, despite interest from Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool.
