Police repel terrorists' attack in Katsina, kill one and rescue five kidnapped women

Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have repelled a terrorists' attack at Bajinawa village in Dutsinma Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesperson of the command, CSP Gambo Isah, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, May 15, 2023, said operatives killed one terrorist during a gun duel, recovered one AK-47 rifle and rescued five kidnapped women.

"On 14/05/2023 at about 2200hrs, a distress call was received that terrorists-bandits, on motorcycles, shooting sporadically with AK 47 rifles, attacked Bajinawa village, Dutsinma LGA and kidnapped five (5) women," the statement read.

"Area commander, Dutsinma, led a team of Policemen to Tashar Icce, a suspected route/black spot, engaged the hoodlums into a fierce gun duel and successfully repelled them.

"In the course of scanning the scene, one member of the terrorists gang was neutralized. The team also recovered one AK 47 rifle and rescued all the kidnap victims.

"Many terrorists are reasonably believed to have escaped the scene with gunshots wounds. Search parties are still combing the area with a view of arresting the injured and/or neutralized bandits.

"The Command enjoins members of the affected communities to report any suspected person found with gunshots wounds to the nearest police station. Investigation is ongoing."
