AFCON 2021: Egypt goalkeeper, Gabaski reveals conversation with Salah about Mane

Egypt goalkeeper, Gabaski, has divulged his conversation with Mohamed Salah moments before he saved Sadio Mane's early penalty in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Final.

Salah was seen speaking with Gabaski as Mane stepped up from 12 yards in the seventh minute.

The two forwards have been Liverpool teammates for four-and-a-half years, so Salah gave his compatriot a hint on what to expect.

Mane subsequently saw his powerful effort to Gabaski's right saved.

The game ended goalless after 120 minutes, where Mane made no mistake in converting the winning spot-kick to give Senegal their first AFCON title.

Gabaski told MBC Egypt: "Salah told me: 'Mane would shoot to the right side, he is coming now because he knows what I am saying.'

"Mane told me that he would shoot the ball on the left side, but Salah replied to him saying, 'We'll see... let's make him punish you'. And it was a smart and correct response from Salah."

Gabaski did not fall for Mane's bluff and Salah was quickly vindicated as the penalty was saved to the goalkeeper's right, handing Egypt an early boost in the final.
