Police arrests and names 'looters' who tried to constitute a nuisance during fire at Next Cash and Carry (photos)

Police has arrested and named three young men caught attempting to loot goods as Next Cash and Carry was on fire. During the fire which broke out early on Sunday morning , Dec. 26, locals came together and helped move some goods from the burning store to a safe distance. However, some attempted to loot and police officers caught them before they could make away with any of the goods.

In a statement by the FCT Police spokesperson, DSP Josephine Adeh, the command explained that those captured in viral videos moving goods were only rendering assistance by evacuating the goods and other valuables to a safer place. The PPRO explained that there was no successful case of looting, adding that three suspects, including one Ali Audu aged 18 Years, Yahaya Yunusa aged 20 Years and Sahabi Abubakar aged 20 Years, who made attempt to steal some items were arrested.

Adeh said the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Sunday Babaji had visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment, stating that investigation is currently ongoing to unearth the cause of the incident.
