Court seize the passport of ex Barcelona superstar over unpaid £1.75m debt

Barcelona legend Ronaldinho has been grounded by Brazil authorities over debt of £1.75 million.

The 38-year-old and his brother Roberto Assis were said to have been heavily fined for illegally constructing a building in a government protected area.

SunSport however report that the 2002 World Cup winner only boasts of just £5.24 in his account at the moment.

The publication further revealed that despite remortgaging the property, the former AC Milan is unable to pay his debt due to the sky-high interest rate.

A Brazilian judge has however ordered Ronaldinho's passport be seized in a bid to ensure he doesn't flee the country.

The former Paris Saint-Germain forward has been in China and Japan in recent weeks on endorsement campaigns, but he looks set for a long stint in his native Brazil with no passport to his name.

The iconic playmaker is due to take part in The Game of Champions in Frankfurt, Germany on November 17.

A "Ronaldinho and friends" XI is set to play the "Rene Adler All-Stars" in a charity game to help disadvantaged children.

But unless the ex-Barca whiz can somehow find £1.75m, his trip to Europe looks to be in jeopardy.
