A dramatic scene unfolded at Cabarita Beach in New South Wales, Australia, where a man was captured on video punching a shark in the face after it attacked a teenager near the shoreline.
The incident occurred on Sunday, June 29, when a 7-foot-long shark bit a teenage boy on the right arm, wrist, and leg. As bystanders rushed to help the injured teen, one individual fearlessly charged at the predator and struck it, forcing the shark to retreat.
Footage of the encounter shows chaos at the beach as others quickly dragged the bleeding victim onto the sand and used a surfboard as a makeshift stretcher. The teen was stabilized and airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.
Emergency services deployed a second helicopter to locate the shark, but the search came up empty. Authorities are continuing to monitor the area closely.
The attack comes just days after NSW Shark Smart had tagged and released a tiger shark at the same beach, raising concerns about increased shark activity in the region.
Local officials have urged beachgoers to exercise caution as investigations and tracking efforts continue.
