VAR to be deployed in the Champions League

The Video Assistant Referees (VAR), will be deployed in the UEFA Champions League from the 2019/2020 season, according to Europe's football governing body UEFA.
The system, which was widely used for the first time in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, will also be applied in the 2019 Super Cup and Euro 2020.
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin further revealed plans to apply the system from as early as the Championship play off places and also the UEFA Europa league.

"We are confident that introducing Video Assistant Referees in August 2019 will give us enough time to put in place a robust system and to train match officials to ensure an efficient and successful implementation of VAR in the UEFA Champions League, the world's flagship club competition." Ceferin said.

The VAR has been a contentious addition to football but despite the cons, Uefa are confident of setting up a "robust" system.
In the World Cup for instance, it was famous for clearing up incidents involving penalty appeals red cards and in some rare instances, cases of mistaken identity.
The Carabao cup in England has also applied the VAR while in Australia's A-league, the system is in full effect.
