Report: Gyokeres' Arsenal transfer in danger of breaking down after unexpected issue emerges

Negotiations for Viktor Gyokeres have reportedly hit an impasse, casting doubt on his anticipated Arsenal move.

Arsenal's long-awaited move for striker Viktor Gyokeres may have hit a significant stumbling block.

The North London club had reportedly decided to prioritise the Sporting star after considering both Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko.

The Swedish international was thought to have agreed pre-contract terms and seemed set for the Emirates.

However, Record reports that negotiations are at an impasse over the transfer fee.

Arsenal and Sporting do not agree on Gyokeres

Multiple sources have reported that Gyokeres believes an honour agreement allows him to leave for €60 million plus €10 million in bonuses (£51.7 million plus £8.6 million).

However, Sporting reportedly view the situation differently. Arsenal have reportedly offered €65 million plus a further €15 million (£56 million plus £12.9 million), but the Portuguese club are now believed to be standing firm on a fixed €70 million (£60.4 million).

The report states that Arsenal representatives conducting discussions with the Portuguese side have reportedly returned to London from Lisbon, having failed to conclude the deal.

The Premier League side are reportedly considering abandoning the pursuit unless there is a substantial change from Sporting, indicating a willingness to move on after a second unsuccessful round of talks.

The player reportedly still wishes to join Arsenal, having even offered to sacrifice up to €2 million (£1.7 million) of his future salary to improve Sporting's financial position.

He has made it clear he no longer wishes to feature for Sporting and is not attending training, reportedly feeling let down by the management's perceived backtracking on his transfer fee assurance.

The 27-year-old Sweden international has reportedly negotiated a pre-contract agreement with the Gunners running until 2030.

What's next for Arsenal?

Arsenal will return to pre-season training this month ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Mikel Arteta's men will face Manchester United in the opening gameweek of the Premier League season.
