Peter Obi won't be voted even if he swears in shrine, only Jonathan can defeat Tinubu - Adeyanju

Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has said the former Labour Party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi won't be voted even if he swears in a shrine to be president for just one term.

Adeyanju made the remark while noting that the only Southerner who can defeat President Bola Tinubu is former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Recently, Obi said he was willing to be president for just one term and handover power to the North.

Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi are lead contenders for the coalition's presidential ticket.

But, none of them have declared their intentions to run yet.

However, Adeyanju said Northerners won't believe Obi to uphold any agreement that he would be president for just one term.

In an interview on Arise Television, Adeyanju said:

"I have said it publicly and I want to reiterate it that even if a Southerner were to contest, the only person who stands the chance of defeating Tinubu is Goodluck Jonathan.

"And this is because he just has only one more term. And as for Obi, it's not a thing of agreement.

"Even if he swears in a shrine, they will not believe him and they will not vote for him.

"I don't see any Southerner candidate that can defeat Bola Tinubu, I don't see.

"But if Atiku steps down he could support a younger Northerner, support somebody else.

"The idea that it must always be me, it does not have to always be you on the stage, you can be off the stage and be supporting somebody that is standing on the stage."
