Police confirm 33 huts burnt in Adamawa community clash

The Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Police has confirmed that 33 huts were burnt after a communal clash in Lamurde Local Government Area.

The Chobo and Bachama people in the LGA had been involved in a brawl over long disputed land.

It has now been elevated into the large scale destruction that prompted heavy deployment of police personnel to restore order.

The police said in a statement obtained Wednesday morning that all was now calm in the area, except for the scars of destruction.

"A total of 33 round huts and three flat houses were discovered burnt," the state police command said in the statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje.

Nguroje stated that to strengthen security and prevent a further breakdown of law and order, more mobile police force personnel from Operation Farauta and Counter Terrorism unit have been deployed to the area.

He added that investigations remained on course to identify the perpetrators of the crisis.
