This year, a special, exceptional early transfer deadline day has been put in place, on June 10. This is to allow teams to register new players before the reformed Club World Cup, which begins on June 14. There has been a race against the clock for Chelsea to sign Jamie Bynoe-Gittens as they intend to utilise his talents in the United States this month.

Race Against the Clock: Chelsea Aim to Sign Jamie Bynoe-Gittens Before Deadline

Negotiations Underway

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that "negotiations are underway" between the two clubs with just over £40 million proposed by Chelsea for the winger, after a £30 million bid was rejected.

They have been racing to complete this deal before the deadline, so that he can play in the Club World Cup for the Blues. With the deadline passed at 19:00 (BST), it remains to be seen whether it was completed in time, with an announcement or a transfer update yet to be made. However, should they have run out of time, Romano reveals that the West London club will continue to negotiate after the deadline, as his main role will be played in the coming seasons.

Is There Space for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens At Chelsea?

Chelsea's interest in the "wonderkid" will come as no surprise to any football fan that has paid attention to the club in recent years, though their business may still continue to confuse some. Todd Boehly has splashed a lot of cash on young stars, particularly in the forward department, and continues to do so at seemingly no stopping rate.

Therefore, this transfer is not a shocking one, though it still begs the question: where does he fit in? Enzo Maresca has had plenty of wide talent at his disposal already, though Jadon Sancho's loan will not be made permanent and Mykhailo Mudryk is still suspended.

However, there is still a lot of competition in the squad. Cole Palmer can play wide, though mostly plays in the ten, whilst Noni Madueke has had a lot of minutes in the 2024/25 campaign, albeit whilst producing inconsistent performances. Meanwhile, Christopher Nkunku and Pedro Neto were both signed for over £50 million in the past two years.

On top of this, Estevao Willian will join his teammates this summer after Chelsea spent £56 million on the youngster last June. It is unclear why they feel the need to sign Bynoe-Gittens when they already have a plethora of wingers who can cut inside with their strong foot.
