A Nigerian woman has been arrested by the police after refusing to return ₦800,000 mistakenly transferred to her bank account.
Despite multiple pleas from the rightful owner, the woman admitted to spending the entire sum on fabrics for her business.
The incident came to light through a series of posts shared by the sender, identified as @ii_kach on X (formerly Twitter).
She had initially taken to social media to cry for help after mistakenly transferring ₦800,000-money meant for an Ajo contribution-to the wrong GTBank account from her Union Bank account.
In a recent update, she revealed that the woman had been tracked down and arrested.
According to her, the suspect confessed to spending all the money and claimed she had no funds left. She also mentioned that she was expecting ₦1 million from someone else on the same day the erroneous transfer was made.
"UPDATE ON THE 800k ERRONEOUS TRANSFER," @ii_kach wrote. "The lady has been caught by the police. She admitted to spending it all on fabrics for her business and claims she has no money left. Her brother has made a deposit of ₦300k."
She added that the woman's brother had stepped in and promised to refund the full amount before the end of June.
Before the arrest, the sender had expressed her frustration online, stating that despite reporting the issue to Union Bank and requesting that GTBank place a lien on the recipient's account, the funds were still moved.
"The lady has finished the 800k... I'm finished 😭😭 AJO CONTRIBUTION MONEY IS GONE," she wrote in one of her earlier posts.
Following the arrest and ongoing recovery process, many concerned users have taken to the comment section to sympathize with the victim and express outrage over the suspect's actions.
