Patrice Evra: PFL postpones former Man Utd's star's MMA debut

Patrice Evra's MMA debut has be put on hold

The Professional Fighters League (PFL) has announced that its upcoming Paris event, scheduled for May 23rd at the Accor Arena, has been rescheduled, according to BBC.

The event was highly anticipated as it was set to feature a headline lightweight bout between French fighter Mansour Barnaoui and Archie Colgan.

However, the rescheduling also impacts the surprise MMA debut of former Manchester United and France football star Patrice Evra.

Evra, who retired from football in 2019, has been training in MMA since 2016 with PFL fighter and friend Cedric Doumbe.

The 43-year-old's foray into the world of mixed martial arts had generated several buzz.

While no official reason has been provided by the PFL for the postponement, a new date for the Paris event is yet to be confirmed.

Evra's opponent for his welterweight debut had also not been officially announced.

Adding an intriguing element to his planned debut, Evra had jokingly called out former Liverpool rival Luis Suarez on social media, referencing their history of on-field clashes, including Suarez's ban for racially abusing Evra in 2011 and the Uruguay striker's multiple biting incidents throughout his career.

The PFL is recognized as the second-largest MMA promotion globally, trailing only the UFC in prominence.

The rescheduling of their Paris event will undoubtedly leave fans and those eager to witness Evra's MMA debut waiting for further updates.
