According to TEAM TALK, Ruben Amorim the head coach of Manchester United, is about to make his first signing for the club with the arrival of left-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno. The 17-year-old is expected to travel to Manchester on January 11 to finalize the deal, though he will not officially sign his contract until he turns 18.
The transfer, which has been in the works for several weeks, is reportedly worth €4 million plus bonuses. Although Leon is excited about the move, his mother, Brigida Blanco, confirmed that he views it as a dream opportunity for any footballer and is confident it will happen.
Fabrizio Romano reported that the total package, including performance-related bonuses, could exceed $6-7 million (£4.9-5.7 million). Despite the agreement being finalized, Leon won't be able to join Manchester United immediately due to his age. However, once he turns 18, likely in the summer, he will officially become a United player.
Initially, Leon will join the youth team with the goal of progressing to the senior squad as quickly as possible. During his visit to Manchester, he will meet Amorim, club directors, and his future teammates while touring Carrington and Old Trafford.
