Real Madrid consider Man City's Rodri as 'ideal replacement' for departing Kroos

The fallout from Toni Kroos' shock retirement announcement continues. Real Madrid are very sad to lose the German midfield maestro at the end of the season, as despite being 34 years of age, he continues to be a crucial cog in Carlo Ancelotti's machine.

Real Madrid consider Man City's Rodri as 'ideal replacement' for departing Kroos

Real Madrid's plan is to not sign a replacement for the outgoing Kroos, with Eduardo Camavinga seen as being the ready-made successor. However, that hasn't stopped club officials admiring potential candidates for the role.

As per Diario AS, there are two names that Real Madrid consider to be ideal Kroos replacements. The first is Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich, who could be available for cheap in the summer if he does not a sign a new contract (his current deal runs out at the end of next season). The second that Los Blancos like is Rodri Hernandez of Manchester City - however, there would be no chance of signing him as the Premier League champions consider the Spanish pivot to be untouchable.

It does make sense for Real Madrid to rely on Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni to fill the void that will be left by Kroos. It will certainly be big shoes to fill, but club bosses have faith.
