Abuja: Bandits demand two motorcycles after N8.5m ransom

Bandits who had previously collected N8.5 million before releasing four out of 17 abducted individuals, including a nurse in Kawu, Bwari area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have now demanded two brand new Bajaj motorcycles for the release of the remaining 11 victims still in captivity.

The bandits initially invaded Kawu community on December 26, 2023, and abducted 23 persons. Four of them managed to escape, leaving 17 others in captivity.

The bandits have reportedly threatened to harm the remaining 11 hostages due to delayed ransom payment. A family member of one of the victims, Bala Dantani, revealed that the ransom was paid in multiple installments.

According to him, a sum of N5 million was raised and handed over to the bandits after they threatened to kill the captives two weeks ago. Additionally, another N3.8 million, along with food, drugs, and wine, was delivered to the bandits on Tuesday after the leader promised to release the victims.

However, while waiting for instructions on where to pick up the victims, the individual who delivered the ransom reported that the bandits were once again demanding two motorcycles before releasing the remaining 11 victims.

As of the time of this report, attempts to contact the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, for clarification on the matter have been unsuccessful.
