Jadon Sancho has expressed his delight at re-signing for Borussia Dortmund - admitting a return to the Bundesliga club felt like "coming home".

The 23-year-old has not played for Manchester United since August due to a falling out with manager Erik Ten Hag and on Thursday finalised a loan deal to return to the Signal Iduna Park until the end of the season, two-and-a-half years after he left the club in a £73m deal to move to Old Trafford.

The public spat between Sancho and Ten Hag commenced after September's 3-1 defeat at Arsenal, in which the Dutchman cited the forward's poor training standards as the reason why he was omitted from the squad that travelled to the Emirates. Sancho subsequently hit back at such claims with a strong social media post, in which he refused to be a "scapegoat" and insisted there were "other reasons" for his absence.

Now, after completing a temporary move back to Dortmund, the 23-year-old, who starred in 137 appearances with the club during his first spell, has voiced his delight at returning to the North Rhine-Westphalia and admitted he can't wait to play football "with a smile on my face".

"When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like 'coming home'. I know the club inside and out, I've always been very close with the fans here, and I've never lost contact with those in charge," Sancho told Borussia Dortmund's official website.

"I can't wait to see my teammates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, prepare goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League."

Meanwhile, Sebastian Kehl, the Sporting Director of the Bundesliga side, has backed Sancho to hit the ground running in the Bundesliga despite not playing a competitive match in over four months.

"Jadon is an absolute difference player and I'm looking forward to seeing him back in black and yellow soon," said Kehl, who enjoyed a 13-year career with Dortmund before retiring in 2015. "He knows this city, Signal Iduna Park, our fans and our club. Even though he hasn't played any competitive games in the past few months, we are sure that he will quickly settle back in with us, get into top form and use his qualities to help us achieve our goals for the season."

Sancho could make his first appearance for Dortmund since 2021 on Saturday, January 13 when Edin Terzic's side travel to Darmstadt in the Bundesliga.
