Dangote Petroleum Refinery Poised to Commence Production as it Receives 6th Batch of Crude Oil

In a significant step toward operational commencement, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced on Monday that it had received the sixth batch of one million barrels of crude oil, marking the completion of the initial scheduled consignment required for the plant's initial operations, as reported by Newsmen.

The development positions the Dangote refinery as the world's largest single-train refinery, equipped to refine petroleum products on a large scale.

The crude oil, supplied by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited, was transported via MT ALMI SUN and constituted the last cargo needed to fulfill the scheduled delivery of six million barrels to the Dangote facility.

This milestone follows the receipt of the first one million barrels of Agbami crude grade from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited a month ago.

The continuous delivery of crude oil in batches over the past month signifies the refinery's preparedness for production.

The Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, Akin Omole, emphasized that the successful delivery of the six million barrels would pave the way for the initial run of the refinery and the production of key refined products.

"Once the six million barrels are fully delivered, it will facilitate the initial run of the refinery as well as kick-start the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and liquefied petroleum gas before subsequently progressing to the production of premium motor spirit," stated Omole.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, with a processing capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is uniquely designed to handle 100% Nigerian crude while also demonstrating flexibility to process various African crude grades, Middle Eastern Arab Light, US Light tight oil, and crudes from other nations.

This flexibility positions the refinery as a strategic player in the global energy landscape.

Furthermore, the refinery is expected to play a crucial role in addressing fuel supply challenges faced not only by Nigeria but also by West African countries.

The company asserts that the refinery can meet 100% of Nigeria's refined product requirements, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel, with a surplus available for export.
