2026 WCQ: Super Eagles didn't underrate Lesotho, will beat Zimbabwe

Semi Ajayi has refuted claims that the Super Eagles underrated Lesotho in Thursday's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The Super Eagles forced the Likuena to a 1-1 draw at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

Lesotho took a shock lead through Motlomelo Mkhwanazi in the 56th minute.

Ajayi leveled for Nigeria 11 minutes later.

When asked at the post-match press conference if the Super Eagles players underrated Lesotho, Ajayi answered,

"Absolutely not. We took this game very seriously; we gave our best; we didn't take them lightly.

"We prepared for the game as we prepare for every game. I think we're just unfortunate not to take a few chances, but we'll learn from this and we'll definitely come back stronger in the next game."

Jose Peseiro's team will look to redeem themselves when they take on the Warriors of Zimbabwe in their next game.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matchday two contest will hold at the Huye Stadium, Butare, on Sunday.
