The cost of sacking Erik ten Hag as pressure mounts on Manchester United boss

Sheffield United v Manchester United - Premier League

Manchester United would have to cough up around £15million in order to sack Erik ten Hag.

The pressure is mounting on the Dutchman following a disastrous start to the season, which has seen United lose seven times in all competitions.

Ten Hag signed a three-year deal at the club when he was appointed in 2022.

He impressed during his first season at the club by winning the Carabao Cup, reaching the FA Cup final and finishing third in the Premier League.

But, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe set to take a 25% stake in the club, there's expected to be a full and thorough review of all facets of the side's performance.

That includes Ten Hag's role, and as Thomas Tuchel found to his detriment when Todd Boehly took charge at Chelsea, new owners can often look to make their mark on a club by sacking the manager.

But, should the club choose to do so, they will incur a cost of around £15m just to get rid of Ten Hag.

The Dutchman has 18 months to run on his deal, where he earns a reported £9m-a-year.

United would have to pay up his contract, which would cost around £15m.

There would then be costly fees associated with dismissing Ten Hag's backroom staff, such as Steve McClaren.
