Nigerian literary icon Chimamanda Adichie has emphatically stated that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, emerged victorious in the 2023 Nigerian election.

Adichie made these remarks during the inaugural lecture of the African World Lecture Series at Princeton University in the United States on Wednesday, October 25, 2023

Addressing the audience, reading a letter addressed to US President Joe Biden, Adichie introduced Obi as the rightful winner of the Nigerian presidential election, citing his genuine humility as a rare quality among politicians. She expressed her deep respect for Obi and described him as a beacon of hope not only for Nigeria but for the entire African continent.

She revealed that some of her literary works were inspired by the frustration and anger stirred by the political landscape in Nigeria, specifically referencing the elections. Adichie expressed her dissatisfaction with the electoral process in her letter.

In the letter, she highlighted the deliberate manipulation of the election, asserting that it was marred by discrepancies and irregularities ignored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
