New signing said there was one condition he told Erik ten Hag he would 'never' join Manchester United

Rasmus Hojlund has said he is proud to wear the Manchester United shirt and has admitted he, at times, catches himself in awe of his situation.

Manchester United decided Rasmus Hojlund was the man to lead the line for them and, after recovering from his back injury, he has made a promising start to his Red Devils career.

With three goals in the Champions League, making him the competition's joint top goalscorer, Hojlund has settled in well in Manchester and is seen as one of the few positives after a dismal start to the season.

The Danish forward has spoken about the conversation he had with Erik ten Hag and his reaction to pulling on the Red Devils shirt.

Hojlund on Ten Hag's words

Speaking to Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet, the 20-year-old forward has revealed he would have been reluctant to move to Old Trafford had he been a bench player.

"I spoke to the coach up until the transfer," Hojlund said. "For me, it was important to play football and if I had been told that I had to go to Manchester United to be a reserve for the rest of my days, I would never have gone there."

The Dane, since his return from injury, has started every game bar one for the Red Devils and that was the convincing 3-0 home win over Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.

Hojlund's emotional moment

It was quite a moment for Hojlund, despite the defeat, the marauding run of the former Atalanta forward and the calm finish into the back of the net at the Stretford End against Galatasaray.

The run, the finish and the celebration encapsulated why he has become such a fan favourite in the North West already.

The Danish forward revealed when he joined the club that he was a fan of United as a child and his start, his passion and his determination have highlighted this.

"Sometimes I can catch myself looking down at the shirt and thinking 'Wow'," Hojlund said.

"I think I'll always be proud to pull the jersey over my head and that's what I try to show on the pitch. I don't get emotional, but I get a little boost."
