In the midst of the ongoing faceoff between Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding the authenticity of the latter's Chicago State University diploma certificate which was submitted to the National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) during the run-up to the 2023 general elections, Abayomi Arabambi, a factional leader of the Labour Party, has criticized members of opposing political factions for maligning the image of the President during a live television broadcast.

In response to the recent warning issued to a television network by the Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) for failing to cautiou a guest who used denigrating terms in reference to Bola Tinubu during one of its live broadcasts, Arabambi expressed his opinion. He noted that while the warning might be perceived as an attempt by the current government to silence the media, no one should have the right to malign the President in a public.

Arabambi conveyed his stance, saying, "We are not part of the APC administration, we are just Nigerians, but whosoever abuses the president, they (NBC) can petition the police to charge such persons for treason or treasonable felony. I just want to say to the NBC that we are on the same page, but we are against anyone coming out to malign the President without any fact or proof, or even the Chief Justice, and the National Assembly. These are respected men and women who make laws for us.

And for the President, until his election is set aside, nobody has the right to come on air to call him a criminal or forger. The NBC should please look into the necessary sections of the Constitution and write a petition to the Police against those people. Let them be charged for treasonable felony so that they can go and face the music."
